Precinct-level election results online; Feb. primary turnout up slightly

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Friday, February 27, 2009

Slightly less than 20 percent of eligible registered voters participated in Tuesday's consolidated primary election, up from 18 percent in 2007 and 17 percent in 2005, Cook County Clerk David Orr said Friday.

All 97 polling places opened on time. Turnout was greatest in Cicero, where nearly 38 percent of registered voters cast ballots, and lowest in Elgin with less than 3 percent of voters participating.

Unofficial precinct-level results from the Feb. 24 Consolidated Primary Election are available online. To view precinct results, select a race from the drop-down menu and click on a candidate's name. The Feb. 24 primary election results will be certified on March 10.

Orr notes that the upcoming April election will pose a greater challenge for his office. Currently, there are about 3,000 candidates up for election, nearly 50 referenda, and more than 800 different ballot styles.

Combine 5th CD results on March 3
Please remember to combine Chicago and suburban Cook County unofficial results on election night. There are 486 Chicago precincts and 92 suburban Cook County precincts in the 5th Congressional District. Voters will have a choice of voting a Democratic, Green or Republican ballot.

Are you eligible to vote?
Voters who are unsure about whether they are eligible to vote in the March 3 primary should visit voterinfonet.com and use the Voter's Tool Kit. When voters enter their addresses, their polling location and sample ballot will appear IF they are eligible to vote in the election. While voters do not register by party in Illinois, voters must select a party ballot for the primary.
