Which races are on the ballot?
The only office to be voted on in this election is U.S. Representative from Illinois' 5th Congressional District, the seat vacated in January by the new White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel. Twenty-three candidates are running: 12 Democrats, five Greens and six Republicans.
Do I have to pick a partisian ballot?
Yes. Since this is a primary election, each voter will have a choice of a Democratic, Green or Republican party ballot. Voters will have the option of choosing from the three primary winners on the April 7 General Election ballot.
Do I live in the 5th Congressional District?
There are 48,127 registered suburban voters and 300,555 registered Chicago voters, or 348,682 total voters in the 5th Congressional District.
Impacted suburban voters include all or some residents of Elmwood Park, Franklin Park, Maywood, Melrose Park, Northlake, River Grove and Schiller Park. Suburban voters can enter their address here to see if they live in the district.

How can I find results on Election Night?
The 5th Congressional District is split between the city of Chicago and Cook County suburbs, two separate election jurisdictions. Results from each jurisdiction must be added together for complete results.

How can I get media credentials to report from suburban precincts?
News reporters, photographers and TV crews need media credentials when entering suburban polling places on Tuesday. Credentials are available at the Clerk's office. Credentials can also be emailed in PDF format by request. Please make requests to cgreve@cookcountygov.com.
