Only 5,213 suburban voters in the 5th Congressional District, or 10.8 percent of the district's registered suburban voters, cast ballots Tuesday in the special primary election, Cook County Clerk David Orr said Wednesday.
When combined with Chicago turnout, about 17 percent of the district's registered voters participated in the election. The election determines the Democratic, Republican and Green Party nominees for U.S. Representative in the 5th Congressional District.
A few other suburban highlights include:
- All 57 polling places opened on time
- 78 percent of all voters chose Democratic ballots
- Turnout was greatest, at 18 percent, in Leyden Township Precinct 82, Hanging Gardens Banquets in River Grove
- Only three of the 92 suburban precincts had more than 100 voters
- Suburban voters chose Victor A. Forys over the other 11 Democratic candidates, including winner Mike Quigley
