Bedford Park, Riverside Township tops in turnout for April 7 election

Nearly 65 percent of Bedford Park voters and 40.5 percent of Riverside Township voters participated in Tuesday's election, according to municipality and township turnout data released today by Cook County Clerk David Orr.

"Overall turnout across Cook County may have been 21 percent, but voter participation was far greater in areas that featured hotly-contested or high-profile races," Orr said.

Of the 40 municipalities with the highest turnout, 33 had a contested mayoral or village president contest on the ballot and another had a serious write-in challenger.

Unofficial results show the top 10 suburban Cook County municipalities by turnout were: Bedford Park (64.9 percent); McCook (54.2); East Hazel Crest (52.6); Rosemont (51.5); Stone Park (48.6); Schiller Park (47.1); Melrose Park (44.7); Riverside (42.9); Franklin Park (42.5); Hodgkins (42.4).

Bedford Park also had the highest turnout in the April 2005 Consolidated Election. The Village of Glencoe, with an unopposed incumbent village president on the ballot, had the lowest turnout of 3.5 percent, or 221 of 6,324 registered voters.

The top 10 townships by turnout were: Riverside (40.5); River Forest (35.9); Berwyn (32.8); Calumet (29.3); Norwood Park (28.7); Worth (27.9); Leyden (27.7); Maine (27.5); Proviso (25.2); Bremen (25.1). Schaumburg Township had the lowest turnout of 9 percent.

Precinct-level results available online

Unofficial suburban Cook County precinct level results for the April 7 Presidential Election are now available at voterinfonet.com. Select "View Precinct," choose from the drop-down menu the race of your choice, click on a candidate's name, and then click on the township name.

Election results will be certified by April 28

Late-arriving absentee ballots and validated provisional votes still need to be reviewed. The Clerk's office has until April 28 to certify final results, in accordance with state law. Candidates who were within five percent of winning their contest can request a discovery recount after certification from April 28-May 4.
