Can't confirm your registration?
There are common reasons why registered voters get a "registration not found" response when checking
their registration status.
The most common is differences between the way voters type their name or address and the way it appears in records
generated by the Clerk's office or the Illinois Secretary of State.
If you are certain you have registered to vote, follow the step-by-step troubleshooting list below and retype your information to confirm your registration status. Try one troubleshooting tip at a time because various record-keeping systems for voter registration list name and address information in different ways.
Troubleshooting tips:
- Always omit street types (Avenue, Road, Street, Lane, etc.) in the Street Name box.
- If your street is Concord Avenue, type only Concord.
- If your street is 159th Street, type only159th.
- Always omit street directional references (North, East, Southwest, W. NE, etc.).
- If your street address is S. Kedzie, type only Kedzie.
- If your street address is W. Washington, type only Washington.
- Where an apostrophe appears in your name, sometimes you must insert a space.
- If your last name is O'Donnell, try typing O Donnell.
- If your last name is D'Angelo, try typing D Angelo.
- In names with multiple capitalization, sometimes you must insert a space.
- If your name is MacDowell, try typing Mac Dowell.
- If your name is LaPorte, try typing La Porte.
- In hyphenated names, sometimes you must substitute a space for the hyphen.
- If your name is Smith-Williams, try typing Smith Williams.
- If your name is Cortez-Bravo, try typing Cortez Bravo.
- In double last names, in rare cases you must omit the space.
- If your name is Brown Jacobs, try typing Brownjacobs (the search is not case sensitive).
- If your name is Rothstein White, try typing Rothsteinwhite.
- City names need to be written out.
- If your city is Arlington Heights, do not type Arlington Hts.
- If your city is Country Club Hills, do not type CCHills.
- If your city is Prospect Park, do not type Prospect Pk.
If you still cannot confirm your status, your voter registration might not be on file.
